There will be 3 Divisions: Open Slalom, Sport, limited to recreation equipment and Wave, limited to wave equipment. Each Division will be broken down in the following Classes:
- Jr. 18 and under
- Men’s and Women’s 19 to 34
- Masters 35 to 44
- Grand Masters 45 and over
Prize money and or prizes will be awarded in each Division
There will be an announcement on the radio, web site and a phone number to call with information on the start, and day of the race. There will be a mandatory Skippers Meeting where the sailors will learn which class they will race in and at what time the race will start and how many laps each class will have to do.
Race Course
The race course will be the “Gorge Slalom“. On the first leg and second leg sailors will jibe the first and second buoys and on the third leg all sailors will be required to jump the tube and perform a duck jibe while rounding the third buoy. The forth leg of this race consists of a clearing buoy you must keep to port and then becomes a “free leg” (meaning you will not have to go around a buoy) but you must be able to go back up wind, make a determination on a lay line, a point at which you will be able to make the mandatory tack and make it back through the starting line to either finish (for the younger kids) or go around again for lap 2.
Equipment Tip
Because there is an upwind leg fin choice will be very important. A small fin may be faster on the downwind legs of this race but a bigger fin will power you upwind better and the upwind “free leg” is crucial to winning this event.
Contestants will be scored by a 3 judge panel on overall impression and the 2 top scores from each bracket will move on. We will start with 6 minute heats then move it to 8 minute
heats for the semi-final and final.
